The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, Mississippi will expand the existing Batson Children’s Hospital by 370,000 SF with a seven-story tower that includes a 92-bed NICU, 32-bed PICU, 10 operating rooms, ambulatory services and an outpatient clinic as well as a five-level, 193,000 SF parking garage.
BHATE Geosciences performed construction materials testing and inspections (CMTI) services for foundations, piles, structural concrete, structural steel, reinforcing steel, masonry and post tension as well as building envelope testing for water and air filtration.
Additionally, BHATE performed GPR structural mapping services to locate the alignment and depth of reinforcing steel in the hospital basement.
Construction costs are estimated to be $200,000,000. The new facility is scheduled to open in August 2020.
