On July 11, 2019, DC Blox opened the first phase of the 33,760 square feet data center, which brought 18,000 square feet of white space and 13,000 square feet of office space, conference rooms, demo space, hoteling cubes, and workstations to downtown Birmingham, Alabama. According to the company, the first phase is a part of their plan to “develop a Technology and Innovation Campus that will drive the connected digital economy in Birmingham and all of Alabama”.
It also connects to DC Blox’s data centers in Huntsville, AL, Chattanooga, TN, and Atlanta, GA. The long-term plans for the data center include an investment of $785 million over the next decade. The building can expand to more than 200,000 square feet with 60MW of critical IT load. DC Blox chose Birmingham after scouting 40 cities around the nation.
BHATE Geosciences is proud to have been selected by DC Blox for this project for all geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing/Special Inspection services. The project was constructed by Brasfield & Gorrie.
